How to use

    Choose how natural or sharp the faces look, and keep 'Enhance background' on to upscale the whole image. The AI models (~200 MB) download once and are cached.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my photos uploaded?
No. Face detection (MediaPipe), restoration (CodeFormer) and upscaling (Real-ESRGAN) all run in your browser with WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device.
Can it restore old family or ancestral photos?
Yes — that's exactly what it's built for. Whether you call it photo restoration or the Vietnamese 'phục dựng ảnh cũ' / 'khôi phục ảnh cũ', it detects each face, restores it and upscales the whole picture — all in your browser, so private family photos never upload.
How long does it take?
It runs on your own device, so it depends on your computer and the number of faces. A single portrait is usually under a minute; a group photo with several faces takes longer. The page stays usable while it works.
How many faces can it restore?
Up to 6 faces per photo, restored from the largest. Each face is detected, aligned and restored individually, then blended back in.
Does it remove scratches or colourise black-and-white photos?
Not yet — this tool sharpens faces and detail and upscales the image. Scratch removal and colourisation are planned for a future update.
What's the ~200 MB download?
The AI models. They download once on first use and are cached by your browser, so later restores start quickly without re-downloading.
Can I turn off the background upscaling?
Yes. Turn off 'Enhance background' to only restore the faces and keep the original image size — that's faster.
