Frequently Asked Questions

What is HEIC?
HEIC is Apple's default photo format on iPhone (since iOS 11). It compresses better than JPG but most non-Apple software cannot open it directly — that is why this tool exists.
Will I lose Live Photos animation?
Yes — only the still image is kept. A Live Photo is a HEIC plus a short MOV; we only convert the HEIC frame.
How long does the first conversion take?
About 1–3 seconds extra the first time, while the HEIC decoder (libheif WASM, ~1.5 MB) downloads. Subsequent conversions are instant.
Does it work offline?
Once the decoder has loaded in your browser, yes — close your Wi-Fi and convert HEIC files locally as long as the page stays open.
Will EXIF be kept?
EXIF is stripped by default for privacy (GPS, camera info). Conversion preserves the image bytes but not the original orientation flag — most pictures still display correctly.
